Twice a Year, Across New Mexico

NMGS brings researchers, professionals, educators, students, and enthusiasts together to present new work, exchange ideas, and experience the geology of New Mexico and surrounding regions.

Spring · Socorro, NM

Spring Meeting

Each spring, the NMGS community gathers in Socorro for geoscience presentations spanning geology, hydrology, geophysics, paleontology, mineral resources, and related fields. Students are encouraged to present their work, submit abstracts, and connect with researchers and professionals from across the region.

Fall Field Conference

Since 1950, the Fall Field Conference has taken participants into a different part of New Mexico or a neighboring region for field-based learning, discussion, and professional connection. Each conference is accompanied by a detailed guidebook featuring regional road logs and peer-reviewed research.

Our Mission

Founded in 1947 to advance the study of New Mexico geology.

NMGS was created by New Mexico geologists to promote interest in geology and related sciences, foster research and publication, and encourage cooperation across the geoscience community.

Today, the Society continues that work through annual events, an expanding publication archive, student support, professional collaboration, and opportunities to experience New Mexico geology firsthand.

NMGS’s work is made possible in part by the NMGS Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that funds our scholarships, conferences, and research support.
