Ground-water resources in the Carrizozo area, New Mexico

Abstract

Ground water near Carrizozo, New Mexico, occurs in alluvium and in consolidated aquifers of Cretaceous age. Recharge to the aquifers occurs along mountain fronts. The mountain-front recharge is estimated to be approximately 3,000 acre-ft/year or nearly 7.5% of the precipitation. Observed water-level declines indicate local ground-water mining.
